One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Thirty-Six

Today was busy, eventful, and generally good.

However, I’m also entirely okay saying this post is being used as a cheat-day for the sake of focusing on creative writing projects. And because I just had a thirteen hour work-day, and I don’t have an idea I like enough to bother. Especially after the last two turned out so unfortunately.

On one hand, I’m really excited I have a book on its way to being published (FYI: it’s Joshua Harkin and the Wicked Nightmare King, which shouldn’t be surprising).

In closing, I have a question for you all (or at least those of you who comment…so a select few, I guess). How does Joshua Harkin and the Wicked Nightmare King sound as an official book one title? I know I’ve had it listed on the Joshua’s Nightmares page for a while, but I want to know what people think.

Wishing everyone a happy, productive hump day, I guess.

Sixty-four (just like one of Nintendo’s best, most carpal tunnel syndrome-furthering systems) days remaining.

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Thirty-Four

Today can jump off a cliff into shark-infested waters already. Holy shit. It’s been dreadful. I could easily go on about why today was one of many miserable Mondays I’ve experienced as of late (I still maintain we revoke Monday’s status as a day of the week until it gets its act together). I’m going to focus on the positive instead.

For instance: I replaced the handle set-up for my downstairs toilet today. I realize this doesn’t sound like much, but it’s the first time I’ve ever had to do such a thing. Problems like that had a way of fixing themselves at home, or so I seemed to think (the joke is my stepdad got stuck dealing with all of these issues). I’m one minor home repair closer to being a proper, responsible adult. Sort of.

Time for real talk. I’m really freaking hungry, and today was almost bad enough for me to justify using the word hangry. Almost. It sounds too stupid to really justify. Instead of dancing around, I’m getting to the topic now. And then I’ve got an actual fiction writing project for while I wait to hear back from Cary Press in regards to my latest round of what I assume are stupid questions. Continue reading

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Thirty-Three

Thirty-three? Two threes, hidden in the form of another number? Like three games in a trilogy? Mystery solved. Half-Life 3 confirmed through a blog with no affiliation to Valve whatsoever. Everyone else can go home.

Sorry. I really couldn’t resist.

Today’s probably going to see two posts. That’s the plan, anyway. I’m trying to guilt myself into it, but I’m also feeling lazy. The latter half of that shouldn’t be too surprising. I think it just needs to be vacation-time for me already. I had to stop half-way into that sentence because my elbow cracked, and it sounded like a goddamn gunshot.

Anyway, I’m just kind of rambling, so I might as well get to the important bits.

I’ll be taking an official break from my This Week in Misadventures posts for now, as most of what I’ve been doing (sadly) has been these posts. I’m taking steps towards fixing that, but it’s mostly an embarrassing reminder of all the things I failed to accomplish in the previous week. Not as good a motivator as you’d think. Continue reading

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Thirty-One

There never seems to be a dull moment on my days off anymore. I’m not saying that’s a good thing or a bad thing so much as stating it as a fact. I woke up far earlier than I wanted, couldn’t get back to sleep, and so I got to work on writing notes for my latest project. A headache started to creep in. I decided to get some WoW time in before taking a nap and just relaxing a little.

And then, after my nap (which my headache endured, sadly), I got my first-ever jury duty summons. The fun plot-twist is I got it for Pittsburgh. I’ve tried to change my voter registration twice now, with a third piece of mail arriving recently to say my address may not be up-to-date. I’ve not been as good about my driver’s license, I’m afraid. Needless to say, I’m sure it’ll be loads of fun trying to make it so I won’t be driving a four-hour round-trip.

Moving on to things more interesting, though… Continue reading

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Thirty

Remember back when One Hundred Days had only just turned twenty-one. Its whole life was ahead of it, full of promise and potential (and alcohol). And then it hit thirty, which is practically over-the-hill by today’s standards. New technology frightens it. Younger blog posts just don’t seem to make sense, and One Hundred Days doesn’t quite get their strange choice in language.

That’s why I’m a night-blogger, people. Because I’m usually awake enough to filter shit like that out. Even though other, just-as-ridiculous things take the place of passages like the one above. Just observe the strange behavior from afar and appreciate knowing you probably aren’t one of the unlucky people who has to spend family dinners with me.

I’m writing this post early on for two reasons. Reason number one is that I have to work mid-shift today, thanks to my own scheduling, and so I won’t want to do much of anything by the time I get home. Reason two is that even in the event I did want to do anything once I get home, I’ve decided tonight will be spent enjoying a little World of Warcraft. My Shaman needs some attention, and I have to get ready for the excitement Blizzard promised with its 10th Anniversary business. The level of enthusiasm I still feel for this game disgusts me a little. Tomorrow, though my day off, will be spent resurrecting Thanatos into Wheatley, which means transferring several hundred gigs of data from my external hard drive, and writing. Continue reading

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Twenty-Nine

This week has been good to me, despite some minor troubles here and there. The good’s outweighed the bad enough that I’m willing to ignore the little frustrations.

I also have to say how I can’t stop thinking about Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s everywhere I look, and for good reason. What a brilliant job Marvel did creating that movie. Tonight’s post isn’t my GotG review, but it ties in a little bit. One of the many, many (so very many) things I loved about Guardians of the Galaxy is how it focused on a group of heroes (move over, Avengers), but it also gave a great deal of love to the supporting characters. Even the ones who were minor in the overall scheme of things were paid their dues. Also, and this is probably my love of villains talking, but I couldn’t help but feel a little bad for The Collector. No spoilers! Just, you know. He seems like the likable, albeit perpetually stoned, doofus of the Marvel Comics Universe movies.

And so it only seems appropriate to show a little love and support for supporting characters. Continue reading

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Twenty-Eight

I feel a hell of a lot better than I did last night, so that means I’ll be able to focus on tonight’s blog entry a little better (in between little kitten keyboard dances). I took a glorious nap after work, which seems a little silly since my initial plans for tonight included a post going into how I need to work on building better writing habits by doing and not doing certain things. Like how I should break my cycle of post-work naps that tend to last far longer than they should. That post will still happen, of course.

Just not on a day I napped for two hours. I’m not that big of a hypocrite, damn it.

Marceline the Kitten Queen is settling into her new home well. She’s learned she can jump very high. It’s very cute when she jumps up to windowsills or joins Brianne or me on the couch. It’s less cute when she keeps hopping up onto the table so she can sample my dinner. Needless to say, it’s a bit difficult to focus now that there is an adorable new kitten here, making a total of three adorable cat-beasts in the house.

That’s why tonight’s post is going to be about murder. Continue reading

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Twenty-Seven

My laptop returned home today, and the actual problems were far worse than initially thought. Instead of my graphics card being dead, it was apparently a bad motherboard and hard drive disk. The BestBuy employee asked if I had an unexpected power outage or something, but it was just my laptop very suddenly and violently shitting the bed. Yikes.

Thanatos has been renamed Wheatley because 1) it better fits the Portal and Portal 2 themed names I have for my Surface 2 (Aperture Surface) and my desktop (GLADESKTOP) and 2) it’s a more fitting name given how derp my laptop has been so soon. I’m not looking forward to resurrecting all of the files from my external hard drive, and I’m fairly certain I lost a couple short stories and other projects forever. Like my forever-backburnered first episode of the Misadventures in Podcasting podcast.

As a quick aside: it’s very difficult to type when a small kitten keeps hopping onto the couch and dancing across my laptop keyboard. She wandered back into the living room just as I was typing that and did it again. Precious little bundle of mischief.

Anyway, time to get moving on this. I’ve got my standard Monday headache, like clockwork. Continue reading

One Hundred Days of Blogging – Day Twenty-Six

Sometimes I don’t think shit through very well. Like planning to get back to serious, planned blogging the day I’m traveling two hours to get a new kitten.

Day twenty-six will be pictures of Marceline the Kitten Queen, as I am still not home and don’t feel like murdering my data allotment with a blog post. I’m not sorry.

Seventy-four (probably less lazy) days remaining.
